What You’ll Learn (8 Modules, Step by Step)

• Module 1: Introduction to Memoir and Setting Yourself Up for Success – Nailing down what a memoir is, identifying arc, themes, and turning points. Setting the foundation and habits to make your writing habit sustainable.
• Module 2: Gathering the Threads of Your Life. In the first section of this module, we discuss your reason for writing this memoir, your goals for your book and for your readers. Then we get down to some organizing: We do a “brain dump,” getting all those ideas out of our heads and onto paper, then we organize them into memory buckets.
• Module 3:  Shaping Your Story. Organization and Structure become the backbone of your memoir and your roadmap to reach your destination. We build a timeline to help you clarify what happened when. (Memories get fuzzy!) This is the skeleton that you will hang your story on.
• Module 4:  The First Draft. Writing your chapters. This is fun because you’re just getting words onto paper. They don’t have to be good—you’re shooting for your “ugly first draft.”
• Module 5:  Creating a Compelling Story. Writing with authenticity, humor, and heart. Bringing your stories to life, making sure they engage your readers, and that they relay the message you want your readers to take with them.
• Module 6: Polishing and Editing Your Story. This is where the magic happens. You look for gaps, create bridges and transitions, and transform your ugly first draft into a well-thought-out memoir. We are working on your book as a whole at this point!
• Module 7: Prepping for Publication: A manuscript is only part of the book. Now we add front and back matter, including dedication, acknowledgements, copyright page, table of contents, and your author bio.
• Module 8:  Sharing Your Story – Explore publishing paths and how to put your book into the world. Cover design, formatting, ISBNs, copyright, and how to navigate publishing platforms.
